IS
CAREER A JOB?
The better truth is
that there is no readymade jobs anywhere, this fact, coupled with the
vulnerable and uncertain economic condition of our country should be enough
reason to employ caution in choosing the venture that will take the rest of
your life and that’s your career.
Career is one area of
life that we young people have been elusive about, we pay more attention to
love and relationship than we pay to this area that is central to our life and
future and if missed, can frustrate our entire life. In this line of thought,
your career is as important as your life, it can either make your life
enjoyable or miserable, that’s the reason we need guidance in choosing what we
will spend the rest of our lives doing to avoid lifelong mistakes.
Career involves the
progress and action taken by a person throughout a lifetime. It is a sequence
and variety of occupations (paid and unpaid) which one undertakes throughout
his lifetime.
Career is not a job. A
job is a padded position requiring a group of specific attribute that enables a
person have position for a long or short time.
Reasoning
1.
The rate of unemployment in our country
today with thousands of graduates without a job is enough to give one a thought
to make sure he/she understands that he/she is going into so as not to join the
cue of jobbers.
2.
The awareness of the drop in the major
sector in our economy and the corruption rate in our country should be a sign
that nobody will give you the place that you desire if not you.
3.
The bitter truth is that there are no
readymade jobs anywhere and this should incite carefulness when choosing a
career.
How
to start
Career decision start
from answering these basic questions of life:
1. Who am I?
2.
What am I here (on earth) for?
3.
What is my purpose on earth?
4.
What is my assignment?
5.
Who am I to become to fulfill that
purpose or assignment?
6.
What is my life about?
These questions are
inter-related but they were asked this way to make sure that no matter how low
your understanding maybe, you will arrive at the aim of what they intend to
achieve.
Until one answers these
questions, you have not started your career journey. You may go to school,
graduate, get a job, make some money and live well, but until you go to that
you are cut out for, you won’t be happy and satisfied in life.
